Watering eyes can have a number of causes.
- Blocked Lacrimal ducts – if suspected we can flush your drainage channels out with saline and if that does not do the trick, you may require surgical intervention and we can refer you if this is the case.
- Droopy eyelids – sometimes this causes the lacrimal ducts to no longer be in contact with your tear film, so your downpipe is no longer attached to your guttering so to speak. Again, if this is the case we can refer you for an opinion on surgical intervention.
- Dry Eye – I know! Crazy, right?! Believe it or not this is the single most common cause of a watery eye. The reason for this is, if you are not producing the right type of tears (not enough of the oily or mucous components), then tears run off your eyes, leaving your cheek wet but your eyes dry! We can assess your tear quality during a Dry Eye assessment and recommend ways to reduce the watering.
